This week brings many important campaign updates!
Funding Proposed
Your letters, participation, and support are paying off: Last week we confirmed the Washington State Convention Center (WSCC), as part of their facility expansion, has proposed $250,000 for the Lid I-5 Feasibility Study! This is a major campaign milestone and we gratefully welcome their support.
In a related development, the City of Seattle has stepped up and committed to accepting the WSCC funds and leading the Feasibility Study! We are now working directly with the Office of Planning and Community Development (OPCD) to outline the study and clear the path to City Council approval.
Neither of these were easy achievements, and your continued support has made it possible. But we also still have a long ways to go and need you to stay involved, because the Feasibility Study requires at least $1.5 million to be a true public benefit. We’ll continue collaborating with the WSCC as the primary funding opportunity.
How did we arrive at that funding goal? It was the high-range estimate provided by the WSCC itself at the December 2016 Public Benefits Open House. It is also aligned with multiple similar lid studies from across the country which utilized consultant expertise and public outreach, such as in Atlanta, Philadelphia, and San Diego.

Meet the Lid I-5 team and learn more about recent community ideas to restitch our city. We’ll share information about the campaign’s status, why the time to plan is now, and how you can help Seattle become a more connected, sustainable, and equitable city.
The event is an open house format with a brief presentation starting at 6:30 PM. The Cloud Room offers a cash bar and light refreshments. All ages are welcome.
