Friends,
The U District / Wallingford charrette was a resounding success! As part of the Seattle Design Festival, dozens of community members volunteered their time and expertise towards envisioning what freeway lids could look like on this northern stretch of Interstate 5. From parks and green streets to housing and public art, we saw it all!
The attention to detail and local knowledge was impressive. Here are a few photos of the design teams hard at work.

If you were there, thank you for making a major contribution towards this citywide campaign. You’ve helped demonstrate there is support for lidding I-5 all across Seattle. Our next steps include writing a detailed event report and continued engagement with the Washington State Convention Center on funding a lid feasibility study. Stay tuned for our email newsletters and on Facebook for the latest updates.
Best regards,
Lid I-5 Steering Committee
